Thanks to everyone who came out to Neutral on Sunday for the Devil Made me DO it weekly party. So much fun! More rockin and the like. The Rock ons rocked-on with their Zombie theme and gory set up, a usual day at the office, you know.

After the insanity that was March, we will be taking a breather to write material, get the website and new merch line up, as well as prepare and promote for our fundraising gig on May 2nd at Rolly's Garage. The all day, all ages event will start with a pre-show at 4 pm with a BBQ outside on the driveway of the venue, with acoustic performances by local musicians and open-mic. The full show will start at 9pm with performances by Les Gars, Machetes and more amazing acts TBA... Keep your ear to the ground, It'll all come crashing down.

We've been busy, busy bees lately playing all sorts of shows. Canadian Music Week was exciting, and playing at the Horseshoe was my personal favourite considering I've seen some of my most memorable concerts there. 2am show at the Bovine was difficult- funny how you realize how fu*ed people get at the Bovine when you're not! We had to play the back line they provided, which was a bit of a shit show since I had to stand REALLYstill in order to hear anything else on the stage--- bass, drums, vocals--- not fun- but these things happen. The insane week was capped with the gig in Orangeville with the Shanks at a boxing ring. Fun to bounce off the ropes while playing, and the sound and lights that they had set up was totally rad. Yes, rad.

We are playing with the Shanks again at the United Steelworkers Hall at 25 Cecil St. near College and Spadina next Saturday (March 28) and then the next day (Sunday) we have another gig at Neutral with the Rock Ons for a weekly goth party. Still going strong......

Tonight we are doing a charity show called Pop With Brains with our very lovely friends in the State of Things. It's $5 and all the proceeds go to CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Heath- how appropriate-...)

AND THEN we will be taking a bit of a brake to finally revamp our website, make new merch, write songs, and prepare our hugely amazing fundraising gig for our UK trip on May 2nd (you can check out our confirmed dates on our myspace~~ www.myspace.com/machetesband)

We're going on a little road trip this Saturday to Ottawa. Playing Zaphod's with The Vicious Guns. Should be fun to get out of the city. Toronto kicked my ass this weekend. Dirt Squirrel, EL, SS and I caught Crystal Castles at Harbourfront Saturday night. Great fun had by all.
We're also playing at Sneaky Dee's on Friday, July 18th for a new night put on by the guys who brought you the infamous Fuck Faces parties.

Our thoughts are with everyone who lost something in the Queen west fire on Wednesday.

Our friends in the band Dead Sexy Sheila lived above the Suspect Video that went down, losing everything (including band gear)-thank goodness no one was hurt. The area has been home to many of us, and the buildings were beautiful and old, some of the last ones like them in the city.

We had been planning on holding our first show in that space (the "secret" location). Seems awfully insignificant now.

Let's make something better out of this shitty situation....

How we got kicked out of karaoke.

The madness reined supreme last Thursday (pictures above).....
We got together at Jen's new place and drank and danced, listened to music, and then headed to Gladstone for karaoke. HOWEVER. No one mentioned that this kareoke was so freaking serious. And god, did they hate our craziness. I think at one point the mic was taken from Jen and the host asked Norelle and Jen to leave the stage, at which point Norelle got all, "Oh no you didn't!!" and pushed the guy, ran out side to where Lexy and I were having a smoke and we jumped in a waiting cab for our quick get-away. Fucked. Fun.

My guitar's in the shop, the Capsule man is tweaking it. I miss it.

Practice tonight.

Still really working on songs, but the last few weeks has been quite exciting for everyone, seems like the material's just exploding out of our little overly coiffed heads. Actually, we've stopped playing the old covers because we've got so much original material to concentrate on (that, and the sound's changed, but we'll look for new covers eventually).

We scrapped the current band name, The Royal Impostors (for now). We initially agreed that we wanted a name that everyone in the band adores and that's what we'll stick to. Since we have a new(ish) member, we may as well keep looking. I realize COMPLETE democracy will be difficult in a band, but we may as well stick true to it as long as it is a possibility.....

Lexy's bringing a video camera from school tonight, soooo.... there may be a bit of jamming footage up in the next few days... we'll see.

Being in a band is the best thing (and the best feeling) in the world! We haven't even played live shows yet, but it's still the most satisfying thing that I have ever done. And you know what? I've tried many different ventures throughout my life and nothing compares to this. It's like being in love. It's like being in a relationship. The four of us share this little life- the band is an entity in and of itself- and right now I'd say we're in the "childhood" stage of its life. The members are there and we are still learning- learning to play as a band and learning from each other. (The picture is from the beginning months, I guess around April?)

Right now I'm waiting to hear from our jamspace if we can practice tonight (I hear there may be a leak in the pipe a in the space).

Speaking OF. We just had to stop practicing at our old jamspace because it flooded with shit. I mean real turds of shit. It's kinda the reason why we got to play there for free in the first place. Now we have to pay, but at least we're not sharing the space with human feces ( I realize how gross that sounds).

Let's start with a brief synopsis, a summary from the beginning to present.

1. Stacy surprises me with a 1969 reissue (pink) Fender Stratocaster for Christmas (I had it on layaway)
2. I start writing some of my own riffs and practicing hours a day.
3. Finally when I think I've got some good ideas to go with, I put a post on myspace about looking for band members.
4. Alex contacts me about drumming (I met her through her boyfriend at the time about a year or so before hand), we get together and jam, she brings Fifi (her Farfisa keyboard).
5. Some crazy punk chick starts working at Grateful head and impresses the socks off everyone with her bass playing (she was actually in an interview to be a hair stylist). Enter Norelle.
6. We use Norelle's abandoned basement apartment as our free jamspace. It flooded with shit and had to be condemmed- it was cleaned out- super-steam cleaned- and, sort-of, fixed.
7. We start jamming on covers (more notably, Cherry Bomb), writing material, etc for about 6 months before starting to audition singers.
8. I contact Jenny Simpson (a cool-ass hot model chick I met about a year and a half a go) and ask her to audition.
9. After a couple of bad storms the old piping at Norelles place finally gives out for the last time. IT'S A FUCKING SHIT STORM!
10. We buy a PA at Long and McQuade and started practicing on a regular basis at the 'Head.

5. "pop it" (aka "the new one")
6. Lexy's soloslow song
*and....
7. T.v eye (cover)
8. Cherry Bomb (cover)
9. Blank Generation (cover)

We're not going to play until the spring (probably), so stop asking.
